Dawn Straka and Rotary Wheels for Learning Friends
Born and educated in Montreal, Quebec, Dawn Straka has lived and worked in Jamaica, Montreal, Toronto, Hamilton and most recently in Keene near Peterborough, Ontario. Dawn’s nursing career took her into health care administration, consultation and education. An active Rotarian in the Peterborough-Kawartha Club for the past 24 years, she is a very committed volunteer with a variety of local community and international agencies. In the past 8 years Dawn lead District 7010’s Wheelchair Distribution Teams to Jamaica, El Salvador and Ecuador and has traveled to Haiti on 8 occasions with fellow Rotarians. She has also been part of a NIDS in Kolkata, India and a Friendship Exchange to southern Africa and for the last 3 years has worked with the HHART dental team in the Dominican Republic caring for non-status Haitians. Dawn’s partner and best friend of 20 years is George Ovens. She has 2 sons, Christopher (Carmen) and Timothy (Reina), 2 step-daughters, Michèle and Evelyn and 2 grand-daughters (Everleigh & Maeven). Dawn's interests include family related activities, photography, baking, cooking, gardening, cross-country skiing and travel.
